Lifting Myths: Benefits of Pushing Plates

MYTH 1
LIFTING HEAVY MAKES YOU BULKY

Women tend to think that lifting heavier weights will “bulk”them up. This is just completely nonsense. Women have testosterone levels that are 15-20 times lower then men, so hormonally speaking we are just not as likely to get “jacked”

MYTH 2
MUSCLE CAN TURN INTO FAT

Muscle and Fat are 2 totally different types of tissues, so even if you’re off for a while at the gym, your muscle WILL NOT turn into fat. However, if you do not use your muscles, the cells will atrophy, and when the muscle cells shrink to a certain size they undergo apoptosis (they die)
But there is a relationship…if you loose muscle mass, you’ll burn fewer calories per day and if your calories remain the same, your excess food energy that is not burned, can be stored as fat.

MYTH 3
CARDIO BURNS MORE FAT (LADIES-PLEASE I BEG YOU TO READ THIS ONE)

Most people I meet still think they need to do extra cardio to drop the weight first, before they start lifting. This cannot be further from the truth. Lifting weights increases the baseline number of calories you burn each day. Muscle tissue is the most metabolically active tissue in our bodies. So, ladies the more muscle you have, the more energy you expend just to keep living.
